Principal Welcome remark on 4 Sept 2023

Honorable Teachers and Dear Students,

Good morning to you all. I am truly honored to stand before you today, as we embark on yet another exciting school year filled with promise and potential. Our topic for today is “AQ : Adversity Quotient” .

Now, you might be asking, “What is an Adversity Quotient?” we have IQ & EQ in before.  IQ is the measure of our intelligence in the brain.  EQ is the measure of our emotion in the heart.  AQ is a measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life and come out the other side without losing your resolve or your passion.  It is your capacity of toughness, to overcome challenges, and to turn obstacles into opportunities.

As we begin this new academic year, each of us will face unique challenges, whether they are academic, personal, or social. You may encounter a difficult exam, a tough sports competition, or perhaps a challenging situation. These are all forms of adversity. Dear students, please understand today that adversity is not necessarily an enemy; rather, it can be a teacher. It is through overcoming challenges that we grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient.

To increase your Adversity Quotient, the first step is to change your mindset, of course to be Growth Mindset, about adversity. Instead of seeing it as a setback, regard it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. Embrace the challenge, for it is through overcoming obstacles that we truly discover our capabilities. The second step is to develop coping strategies. This can include seeking help when needed - remember asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of strength. It shows your willingness to learn and improve.

The third step is to practice resilience. Resilience is not about avoiding failure; it's about bouncing back after a setback. It's about learning from our mistakes and using them as stepping stones to success. Lastly, believe in God that HE will guide you to overcome challenges. Remember, the only real failure is when you stop trying. So, no matter what challenges you encounter this year, keep going, keep learning, and keep growing.

I am confident that, with God’s grace, each one of you has the potential to improve and rise above any challenges. Each challenge you face is an opportunity to increase your Adversity Quotient. Remember: Pray is an important practice. So, believe in God who guides you facing the coming year with courage, resilience, and a mindset of growth and learning. Let's make this school year a journey of resilience, growth, and increased Adversity Quotient.

Thank you for your attention and I wish you all the best in your academic journey this year. Let's make this a great year together. God bless you all always.
